Dogs
Congratulations to Uno the Beagle for winning Best In Show at the Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square! He's very cute and I hear beagles wonderful dogs to own as pets -- very smart and great with children.
Zoey and I tuned into the dog show on TV so we could see the lhasa apsos.
They are so funny to watch -- like little mops sweeping across the floor. Zoey is glad to have a short hair cut but we both admired how graceful those little dogs are.
After two hours of straight dog show watching, Zoey got very sleepy.

Happy Anniversary!
Today marks the anniversary of being the owner of an adorable lhasa apso. Five years ago, today, I sat in a taxi holding a tiny and trembling puppy in my arms. She and I have been through a lot over the years and she probably knows more about me than anyone else in the world. I love her so much.

Summer in the City
Every summer in NY we get these couple of weeks in July and August where it is so hot that my clothes stick to my body and even post shower my skin feels sweaty. I've been living on the east coast for 11 years and I am still not entirely used to it. Perhaps I never will be. But to make things worse, when the weather gets this hot in the summer, it's become a ongoing problem that Zoey gets sick and dehydrated. She is all better now but last week she had to stay overnight at the vet hooked up to an IV with intravenous fluid. She wasn't eating and she was extremely lethargic. Very scary.
For the first 18 years of my life my summers looked like this-
Fog, fog and more fog. And a year round temp of 60 degrees. Not that this was better in any way, it was just different. I used to take swimming lessons in Marin and spend weekends in Napa when I was growing up. Right across the Golden Gate Bridge the weather changes -- the fog is gone and the weather is a dry 80 degrees.
It's been so hot recently that I haven't felt like eating much. Or spending too much time outdoors, eventhough I usually enjoy walking. Zoey is completely better -- she has energy again and she has even been enjoying her walks, particularly since she goes out in the early morning and late evening when it is a little cooler.
It's around this point in the summer that I begin to eagerly anticipate the Fall, another season we didn't have in San Francisco. I love 'back to school', particularly since it still applies to my life. I even signed up for a French class at the New School. I'd like to brush up on my French and perhaps study in Paris for a few weeks next summer. I've been inspired by Bex and her amazing summer taking classes in Barcelona and traveling throughout Europe. And the best thing about Paris? Actually, there are many wonderful things about Paris. But if I lived there for a summer, I could bring Zoey (Paris is an extremely dog/chien friendly place) and it wouldn't be nearly as humid. But that is still a year a way. In the meantime, I'm staying in the air conditioning at work and at home. Especially since I got lightheaded on a very crowded and unairconditioned 6 train last week.
I rewatched two more Lynch films -- Eraserhead and The Elephant Man, both black and white and both easier to follow than Mulholland Drive. I like seeing how much Lynch's style has changed throughout the years. I still like his newer stuff better but I like that he tends to use the same company of actors.
I'm almost finished reading Decication by the Nanny Diaries authors Nicola Krauss and Emma McLaughlin. It may be a step up from their last novel, 'Citizen Girl', but it's disappointing that neither book is anywhere close to being as great as their first. I'll probably see the Nanny Diaries film eventhough I'm sure it will be terrible. It was originally supposed to be released in April and they held it back until next month which is never a good sign. Plus, the preview makes it look unappealing. Still, I loved that novel and the casting is good. We'll see.
