Fifi Takes a Bath

Teaching pre schoolers is never ever boring. Case in point. During 'crayon time' I was asking my students for ideas of what to draw in order to further instigate listening skills, working together, and cause and effect. Here is the conversation and the product that followed. For blog purposes, I have changed the names of my two and three year old students.

Emily: Make a dog!
Amy : She should be a poodle!
Olivia : She should be named Fifi!
Amy : She has curly hair
Elizabeth: She's a princess
Me : What does a princess poodle look like?
Amy : She needs a crown!
Olivia : a sparkle crown
Me: What color?
Olivia: Blue
Matthew: She needs a bath. Make a bathtub!
Kevin: With bubbles. Lots of bubbles.
Amy: She likes toys in her bath
Me: What kind of toys
Olivia: A dinosaur
Me: (I start drawing a dinosaur)
Olivia: No, a horse!
Me: (I turn the dinosaur into a horse)
Olivia: No, actually a giraffe!
Me: (I turn the dino-horse into a quick giraffe)
Matthew: And she needs a rubber duckie
Amy: She should have red shoes
Olivia: Yeah, like Mommy shoes
Elizabeth: Wizard of Oz shoes

This is what ended up being drawn--

The story that they created together after the drawing was finished was really very entertaining. It involved Fifi the Poodle (who happens to live on the Upper West Side) taking a walk in Central Park, playing ball with her dog friends, and getting muddy. I won't go into all the details but it was very creative and entertaining. Perhaps some day I'll write my own children's book!

Also, I thought this drawing (by 2 year old Matthew) was rather advanced. I love how he chose two crayons and used them at the same time (black and purple). He asked me to write the title for him. His picture is called 'Man With No Face'.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

A Laughing Baby...

...is funny. Four laughing quadruplets are even more amusing.

I know my posts of late have been greatly lacking substance and I've been posting my fair share of youtube clips that make me happy. A lot has been going on, good things, and I would like to write about it all and I will, someday.

I turn 30 on Monday. This is my last official weekend of being in my '20s'. And I'm feeling pretty okay about it!

Election

Do superdelegates matriculate at the electoral college?

I'm officially renouncing my support of Hilary. I haven't fully joined Team GObama yet, but I veering in that general direction (better than a Republican choice). Hilary is sounding way too entitled and self righteous for my taste. And haven't we just had 8 years of that?

David Lynch Does Gucci

I love the new Gucci commercial directed by David Lynch and featuring 'Heart of Glass' by Blondie. The dancing is very 'Inland Empire'. Lynch could get me to buy anything -- seriously -- I now want a bottle of my own!
